The eye catcher of the facade of the QO Hotel in Amsterdam are its golden facade panels. They open & close automatically, depending on guest presence in the 288 rooms, weather circumstances, time of day and the season. This leads to an intelligent facade that leads to an incredible reduction of 65% in heat energy and 90% in cooling energy. No wonder the building is LEED Platinum certified.
Natural energy sources
One of the most visible circular elements of the unique 21-story "living building" is the innovative moving façade. This 'intelligent façade' consists of moving panels on the outside of the windows that, if the guest is not in the room, respond to the outdoor climate. In this way they provide extra insulation on cooler days or let sunlight flow in for heating, so that the room always stays at a pleasant temperature. This revolutionary climate control provides significantly less energy for heating and cooling.
